Body shaming

Body shaming needs to stop. End of! Whether you are male, female, large or small, comparing you to other people and implying they are better or worse because of your body shape and size is not acceptable. I thought we lived in the 21st century but at times I wonder.

I am not a slim person, and will probably never be. I do want to lose weight, but I want to do it for me. For my health and self confidence. Not to please other people. More than once I have been called fat by people who don’t know me or have yelled at me in the street. I am not stupid – I know I am overweight, but it doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt. Who do these people think they are? At the end of the day, if I apply myself, I know I can lose weight. I’ve done it before and I will do it again. These people however will probably never be able to stop being dicks!

Body shaming takes so many forms nowadays, and none are acceptable. Whether it’s saying that male celeb has a “dad-bod” or saying that model is too skinny. It also happens to “joe public” being heckled in the street, or even online. People need to mind their own business and leave them alone. What impact in their lives does someone they don’t know’s body size have? NONE!

The problem is, it is easier to hide behind a screen and type abuse anonymously. Cyber bullying of any type is unacceptable – but it is so easy for people to do. They can’t see the effects and so they become keyboard warriors and there are no real consequences for their behaviour.

At the end of the day, it is what is on the inside that counts, and so what covers it should be completely irrelevant. I know it is sometimes easy to make judgements about people from what we see, but don’t act on it. Rid yourself of the thought, and love them for who they are!
